This exercise for some reason worked well for
me. I visualized my girlfriend Emily who
passed away two years ago this month from breast cancer. I got a great sense of peace thinking about
her and talking with her even though that was not part of the exercise. I feel calm and relaxed now which I have not
felt for a little while now. This is a
practice that I will try to do more often.
I felt like I was carrying this with me at work and it made the little
bothersome things seem so unimportant and trivial. I think this was one of the best exercises
for me especially in my current state of mind.
This phrase to me means how can you tell me to do
something you have not tried yourself. This
applies to the wellness profession directly because how can you tell someone to
try a meditative practice that you have not yourself. How can you say to open your heart and mind
to loving kindness and it will change your life if you have never experienced it. It is like when you go to an OB/GYN doctor
who is male and he says I know this is going to be uncomfortable I think no you do not know. You absolutely have an obligation to your
clients. To continue developing yourself
is to show them the expanses you can go to and the levels that can be
reached. To stop learning is to stop
growing. We need to continue to develop
our inner selves so we can help and guide our clients in ways that work for
them. By continuing to practice
meditation and finding ways to go deeper we can bring loving kindness into our
selves. I will continue to work on these
practices and allow my body mind and spirit to grow in positive directions.
